Little Expectations, Big Surprise. →
A last minute aya after the company’s basketball tournament, we found ourselves in the dubious streets of Manila to go to “The Hobbit House”. A place inspired by the ever friendly small people of the Lord of the Rings. The local staff was of small people too and even the management. It’s been in operation since the 1970’s which I think a good two decades before the movie was even made.
It wasn’t so much on the outside, but the inside was actually quaint and inviting. The place was big with pleasant wood fixtures and Hobbit-living paraphernalia. We walked upon a good group of foreigners. One side looked like they came from the army, while the other were well to do travellers from the west. We were the only locals visitors at that time.
With much relief, it was a decent place after all.
The menu was quite impressive and they even served more than 200 types of beers. I believed most of the visitors were foreigners so this was a good come on. I ordered myself Max Beer from Korea and the group decided to gobble on nachos, sisig and Italian Sausage pasta. The food was of a hefty serving, and if I didn’t eat loads that lunch time, I would have finished the meals. I’d rate the food at a 7 to an 8.
Not bad, not bad at all.
The bar also featured some music and at that time it felt like we were listening to a break up mix tape. Felt it matched the mood since we talked mostly about relationships and boys. Oh yeah, it was a girls’ night out pala.
Overall The Hobbit House was a pleasant surprise. This makes me want to explore Manila… again!
